Sri Lanka Culture & People

There is a lot of cultural diversity in Sri Lanka. Religion is an important component of diversity. The Hindu and Buddhist temples are among the most obvious symbols of the cultural landscape. The cultural mosaic is colored by colonial effect, modernising influences, and wealth and income.

People are warm and friendly with visitors. Many people's lives are affected by their faith. The majority of people in the nation practice Buddhism. People greet you with open arms wherever you go in Sri Lanka.

Many Sri-Lankans speak English as a second language, which is influenced by the colonial past. Family values, modesty and spirituality are very important to many Sri-Lankans and one feels the strong cultural values in Sri-lankans where ever you go.
